Overview: Cambium is seeking a collaboration-oriented, results-driven Lab Technician to join the optical materials innovation and scale-up team, bridging the gap between new materials discoveries and high-performance commercial applications. You’ll work closely with scientists and engineers to contribute to research and testing activities in the development of new laser protection optical products. This will be a hands-on role, and you will be involved in the entire process. We will provide training and mentorship every step of the way. As Cambium experiences rapid growth, the responsibilities of this role are expected to evolve. This will require the ability to solve technical problems, both independently and as part of a team, in developing new products and new manufacturing processes for operation in an aeronautical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Technical Expertise:
· Follow written and verbal instructions with excellent attention to detail to precisely carry out a wide range of laboratory tasks.
· Carefully weigh and mix ingredients to prepare resin formulations.
· Prepare samples for analytical testing.
· Operate analytical instruments such as spectrophotometer, fluorometer. Etc..
· Wash chemistry glassware and clean the laboratory space.
· Participate in a wide range of R&D problem-solving activities with an open mind and desire to learn.
· Inspect lens blanks to detect flaws, verify smoothness of surface, and ensure thickness of coating on lenses.
· Set up machines to polish, bevel, edge, or grind lenses, flats, blanks, or other precision optical elements.
· Shape lenses appropriately so that they can be inserted into frames.
· Mount, secure, and align finished lenses in frames or optical assemblies, using precision hand tools.
· Select lens blanks, molds, tools, and polishing or grinding wheels, according to production specifications.
· Assemble eyeglass frames and attach shields, nose pads, and temple pieces, using pliers, screwdrivers, and drills.
· Immerse eyeglass frames in solutions to harden, soften, or dye frames.
· Control equipment that coats lenses to alter their reflective qualities.
2. Physical requirements
· Good manual dexterity
· Standing and/or sitting workstations
· Lifting 5-10 lbs regularly
· Follow all safety protocols and contribute to our culture of safety.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalency certificate with 7+ years’ experience working in a laboratory or industry setting
· Have a strong desire to learn and be willing to work in a hands-on role
· Detail oriented, meticulous, and patient working style
· Strong communication and collaboration skills
· NOTE - Must be a U.S. Citizen due to clients under U.S. government contracts.
Other Desirable Qualifications:
· Experience in assembling and formulation eyeglasses
· Experience in lens cutting and shaping
· Maintain discretion when working with confidential and proprietary information
Compensation: Cambium offers a highly competitive compensation and benefits plan. This includes excellent medical/dental/vision benefits, and a matching 401(k) plan.
$27 - $35 /hr ($56,160 - $72,800 /year equivalent)
