Job summary

The Florida Legislature seeks an advisor and technical expert to plan and manage budget operating activities of a subcommittee, under the direction of the subcommittee chair, budget committee chair, and the Speaker.

This position performs complex analytical tasks related to state financial policy, sets priorities, coordinates subcommittee reports and legislation, monitors progress, and communicates with Legislators and the public.

Qualifications

• Experience with state administration and general government appropriations or policy.
• Knowledge of economics, statistics, and financial analysis principles.
• Understanding of Florida state government, legislative rules, and procedures.
• Familiarity with accounting, finance, or economics concepts.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the overall direction and administration of the budget subcommittee.
• Prepare legislation to address issues identified by the chair, members, staff or the public.
• Coordinate subcommittee interim research projects and major subcommittee documents.
• Assist in developing and presenting budget briefings and program alternatives to leadership.
• Coordinate the development of the Appropriations Bill with proviso language and related bills.
• Coordinate planning of subcommittee meetings and present findings when appropriate.
• Assist in prioritizing state agency funding needs and recommend actions on legislation.
• Monitor budget implementation to ensure alignment with legislative intent.
• Prepare or review written and oral communications in response to inquiries from Legislators and the public.
• Coordinate subcommittee reports and budget documents and serve as liaison with Legislature, state agencies, and other groups.
• Maintain expertise in the assigned subcommittee area and monitor changes and activities.
• Coordinate the flow of substantive legislation through the subcommittee.
• Perform related duties as required.
