Job summary

Florida Legislature is seeking a technical expert to support a legislative committee, legislators, and the public. The incumbent researches, analyzes, drafts legislation and amendments, and prepares staff analyses and reports under supervision.

Responsibilities include briefing, planning meetings, and coordinating data-driven research while maintaining confidentiality and delivering quality work on tight deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required with three years of professional experience.
  • Master’s degree can substitute for one year of experience.
  • Doctorate can substitute for two years of experience.
  • Experience can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and summarize proposed legislation for effectiveness and impact.
  • Research and draft legislation and amendments as directed.
  • Plan meetings, prepare agendas, speakers, and materials.
  • Monitor legislation to ensure legislative intent is met.
  • Brief legislators verbally or in writing on committee issues.
  • Conceive, plan, and conduct research projects and studies.
  • Prepare reports with recommendations for action.
  • Provide information and problem-solving support to legislators and the public.
  • Prepare letters, summaries, talk-sheets, speeches, and memoranda.
  • Stay informed on issues by reviewing materials and attending events.
  • Coordinate work with staff and liaise with state agencies.
