Job summary

King & Spalding LLP seeks a Senior Legal Project Manager to lead the planning, budgeting, and delivery of large, complex matters across practice groups and clients. You will shape LPM capabilities, drive process improvements, and align staffing, scope, and timelines with client expectations.

You will mentor team members, manage multi‑jurisdictional projects, and partner with attorneys, clients, and business services to optimize matter performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; JD or master’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field preferred
• Formal project management qualification is preferred, e.g. APMQ or PMP
• Minimum of 7+ years of legal project management, legal operations, or practice management within a law firm
• Prior experience mentoring a team, including performance management and professional development responsibilities
• Significant experience managing multi‑jurisdictional matters with global legal teams in a dedicated project management capacity
• Strong knowledge of legal project management methodologies, approaches and processes
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to interact with senior stakeholders to negotiate and influence
• Strong financial analysis skills; ability to prepare analyses and provide insights
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem‑solving skills; able to manage multiple priorities
• Ability to protect and maintain confidential and sensitive information

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, execution, and delivery of complex legal matters and portfolios with plans, milestones, trackers, and status reports
• Define matter scope, staffing needs, roles, workstreams, and success measures with attorneys and clients
• Develop and manage matter budgets, forecast timelines, monitor spend, and identify risks with mitigation actions
• Serve as senior point of contact for partners, matter teams, clients, and internal stakeholders with updates and insights
• Facilitate governance meetings and cross‑practice collaboration across offices, counsel, vendors, and clients
• Support fee arrangement management and monitor implementation across matters and client portfolios
• Advise on staffing and resource allocation to balance capacity and client requirements
• Develop and promote LPM methodologies, templates, workflows, dashboards, and best practices
• Contribute to pitches, RFPs, client presentations, and LPM collateral for business development
• Evaluate and optimize LPM tech, data analytics, benchmarking, and matter management tools
• Provide LPM training, coaching, and change management to drive adoption
• Supervise and mentor LPM staff and junior team members, with performance feedback
• Coach team members on matter management, stakeholder engagement, budgeting, and client communication
• Help mature the LPM function with standardized operating practices and global consistency
