Senior Legal Advisor (Volunteer - Unpaid Role)

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Legal Advisor to join our organization. In this critical role, you will provide strategic legal support across a wide range of regulatory, litigation, and corporate matters, playing a key part in shaping the legal foundation of our organization. This is an exciting opportunity to engage in complex legal challenges and collaborate with cross-functional teams to address legal issues and support strategic objectives.

This position reports directly to the organization’s CEO. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in regulatory law, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a proactive mindset.

Key Responsibilities:

• Advising and counseling the CEO and Managers on legal issues involving personnel and service providers (volunteers, employees, etc.).
• Handling employment issues and other labor/employment matters.
• Drafting and preparing legal documents, such as contracts, agreements, or claims, and ensuring their implementation.
• Conducting legal research and analyzing documents and previous cases to build legal arguments.
• Staying updated with new labor/employment legislation and conducting relevant research.
• Assessing risk factors and providing proactive legal and labor advice.
• Maintaining current knowledge of applicable laws and clarifying legal language for management.
• Monitoring and ensuring compliance with local and federal laws regularly.

Qualifications:

• Law degree from an accredited law school.
• 3+ years of relevant legal experience, either at a law firm or as in-house counsel.
• Experience in private practice or in-house at a technology company or similar organization.
• Ability to work independently and within a cross-functional team.
• Proficiency in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey complex legal concepts clearly.
• Strong legal research skills and case management abilities.
• Solid knowledge of state and federal labor and employment laws.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Nice to have: Experience working in-house at a startup.
