Job summary

Driven Brands, based in Charlotte, NC, seeks a Senior Lease Accountant to strengthen lease accounting processes and support a key transition to a new lease system. You will validate data, test processes, and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, ASC 842, and SOX while collaborating with Real Estate, Legal, and FP&A teams.

The role emphasizes month‑end close, reconciliations, audit readiness, and remediation of material weaknesses in lease accounting and related controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
• Experience with lease accounting, journal entries, and reconciliations is expected.
• Public company or public accounting experience is a plus.
• Experience with lease accounting software or lease administration systems like FinQuery or ProLease is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain accounting for operating and finance leases per ASC 842.
• Prepare monthly lease entries including ROU asset amortization and lease liability activity.
• Analyze lease agreements for proper accounting treatment.
• Coordinate with Real Estate, Legal, Operations, FP&A to identify lease events.
• Maintain lease accounting schedules and data integrity in ERP.
• Support the lease system transition including data validation and UAT.
• Prepare recurring and non‑recurring lease-related journal entries.
• Ensure entries are documented and compliant with policies and controls.
• Assist with close processes and audit readiness for lease accounts.
• Conduct reconciliations and investigate variances; support remediation efforts.

Job Description

The Senior Lease Accountant is a key member of the Corporate Accounting team responsible for lease accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, control execution, and audit-ready documentation. This role is especially important in an environment addressing material weaknesses related to leases, journal entries, and account reconciliations.

The Senior Lease Accountant will help strengthen day-to-day accounting processes, support remediation activities, and assist with the company’s lease system transition by validating data, testing processes, documenting procedures, and supporting accurate financial reporting under U.S. GAAP, ASC 842, and SOX requirements.

How You Will Own It

• Prepare and maintain accounting for operating leases, finance leases, lease modifications, additions, terminations, and remeasurements in accordance with ASC 842.
• Support completeness and accuracy of lease populations, abstracts, assumptions, and supporting documentation.
• Prepare monthly lease accounting entries, including ROU asset amortization, lease liability activity, additions, and terminations.
• Analyze lease agreements and amendments to support proper accounting treatment.
• Coordinate with Real Estate, Legal, Operations, FP&A, and other stakeholders to identify lease events timely.
• Maintain lease accounting schedules and support lease system and ERP data integrity.
• Support the company’s lease system transition, including data validation, user acceptance testing, reporting review, reconciliation of converted balances, and process documentation.
• Journal Entries & Close Process
• Prepare recurring and non-recurring journal entries related to lease accounting and assigned corporate accounting areas.
• Ensure journal entries are supported, documented, and compliant with accounting policies and control requirements.
• Investigate unusual transactions, variances, or errors and assist with timely resolution.
• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities while meeting established deadlines.
• Account Reconciliations & Balance Sheet Integrity
• Prepare and maintain complex reconciliations for lease-related balance sheet accounts.
• Ensure reconciliations are completed timely, accurately, and supported with clear audit-ready documentation.
• Investigate reconciling items, perform root-cause analysis, and assist with resolution of exceptions.
• Support improvements to reconciliation quality, standardization, and compliance with company policies.
• Internal Controls & Material Weakness Remediation
• Support remediation activities related to lease accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
• Execute assigned SOX controls and maintain evidence demonstrating effective control performance.
• Assist with documenting processes, risks, controls, and standard operating procedures.
• Support Accounting Management, SOX, Internal Audit, and External Audit teams during remediation and testing activities.
• Identify control gaps or process weaknesses observed through daily work and recommend practical improvements.
• Audit & Compliance Support
• Prepare support requested by Internal Audit and external auditors.
• Maintain audit-ready workpapers, reconciliations, schedules, and journal entry support.
• Assist with audit inquiries and control testing requests.
• Support compliance with U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and company accounting policies.

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, ICFR, and SOX compliance requirements.
• Experience preparing journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, audit support, and control evidence.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Preferred
• CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
• Public company or public accounting experience.
• Experience in an environment remediating material weaknesses or significant control deficiencies.
• Experience with lease accounting software or lease administration systems such as FinQuery, Prolease or similar platforms.
• Experience with Oracle, FCCS or other large ERP/consolidation systems.
