Job summary

Boston Dynamics seeks an Associate Director of R&D Quality Engineering to lead quality across prototype operations, low-volume production, and supplier quality. The role directs root-cause investigations, data governance, and design-for-quality improvements while enabling rapid learning in a fast-moving hardware environment.

The role emphasizes leadership, scaleable quality gates, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure product integrity as designs evolve weekly.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of progressive quality engineering experience in complex hardware environments.
• 5+ years leading quality teams through NPI, prototype, or low-volume production phases.
• Demonstrated mastery of structured problem solving (8D, DMAIC) with cross-functional investigations.
• Deep knowledge of GD&T, measurement systems analysis, and process validation.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute a scalable quality strategy for prototype-to-production reality.
• Lead the 8D program with containment, root cause verification, and preventive actions.
• Own supplier quality and incoming inspection strategy for critical parts.
• Oversee quality systems, traceability and defect analytics across builds.
• Build and develop a quality engineering team for R&D with discipline and speed.
