Job summary

The University at Albany seeks an Associate Vice President for Economic Development & Innovation (AVP-EDI) to lead the Office of Economic Development and Innovation, guiding strategic initiatives in innovation, research translation, entrepreneurship, and regional economic impact.

This senior leader will oversee Technology Transfer and IP management, build industry partnerships, and advance startup formation while aligning activities with SUNY policies and state regulations.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of progressive leadership experience in economic development, technology transfer, research administration, commercialization, or innovation ecosystems.
• Experience at an R1 university or major research organization.
• Experience managing federally funded innovation or economic development programs.
• Expertise in research commercialization and IP strategy.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior-level leadership for the Office of Economic Development and Innovation.
• Develop strategic initiatives to enhance impact in innovation and regional development.
• Advise the VP on opportunities, priorities, policy, and resource allocation.
• Lead multi-year planning for innovation capacity-building and industry engagement.
• Oversee IP management, licensing, and commercialization readiness.
• Build partnerships with faculty, centers, and external stakeholders.
• Lead and supervise teams ensuring performance and DEI commitments.
