Job summary

Stony Brook Medicine in Stony Brook, NY is seeking a TH Instructional Support Assistant in the Department of Laboratories to support phlebotomy and specimen receiving, supervise staff, and ensure safety and compliance with NYSDOH and OSHA standards.

The role requires current phlebotomy certification, 4 years of phlebotomy experience including pediatric phlebotomy, and 1 year supervisory experience, with strong communication and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Current Phlebotomy Certification.
• Four years phlebotomy experience including pediatric phlebotomy.
• One year supervisory experience and customer service in healthcare or related field.
• Excellent communication skills required.
• Knowledge of laboratory operations and information systems.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day Specimen Receiving and Phlebotomy operations and coordinate staff.
• Maintain staffing, ensure adherence to policies and standards, and record workflows.
• Perform phlebotomy and provide staff training per policy.
• Report issues to supervisors and participate in staff meetings.
• Coordinate equipment, supplies, budgeting, and scheduling as needed.
• Rotate between service centers to meet operational needs.
