Job summary

SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn, NY seeks a full-time Phlebotomist / TH Instructional Support Assistant, Lab Specimen & Accessioning to perform venipuncture, log specimens, and handle LIS Cerner. The successful candidate will train staff and support quality assurance and patient safety across routine lab operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 1+ year of experience in venipuncture and clinical labs.
• Phlebotomy certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and fingerstick collection on inpatients and outpatients.
• Maintain accurate logs of all venipuncture performed.
• Process and handle specimens in central receiving area.
• Log specimens via LIS (Cerner).
• Participate in all aspects of quality assurance, quality control, patient safety and continuing education.
• Train and aid in the instrumentation of techniques to new personnel and house staff.
