Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership, QA/QC, and client communication experience.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical codes and HVAC design practices.

Responsibilities

  • Perform HVAC load calculations, ventilation calculations, system sizing, psychrometric analysis, and equipment selections.
  • Design and coordinate airside, hydronic, refrigeration, exhaust, ventilation, and related HVAC systems.
  • Develop equipment schedules, control sequences, diagrams, and construction-doc content communicating design intent.
  • Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, controls, and equipment requirements.
  • Lead discipline QA/QC, including review of calculations, drawings, and specs.
  • Mentor engineers and designers, provide timely technical feedback, and raise team capability.
  • Support project managers with scope definition, fee development, staffing, risk identification, and change management.
  • Represent the discipline in client meetings, design reviews, and coordination with authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Travel to document existing conditions and perform site observations as needed.

The Senior Engineer - Mechanical provides senior technical leadership for discipline design, quality, mentoring, and problem solving across multiple projects. This role is expected to exercise independent professional judgment, establish technical direction, perform and lead QA/QC, develop staff, and help project teams deliver coordinated, constructible, code-compliant work.

  • Perform HVAC load calculations, ventilation calculations, system sizing, psychrometric analysis, and equipment selections appropriate to the assigned level.
  • Design and coordinate airside, hydronic, refrigeration, exhaust, ventilation, and associated HVAC systems based on project requirements.
  • Develop equipment schedules, control sequences, diagrams, details, specifications, and other construction-document content that accurately communicates design intent.
  • Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, controls, and equipment requirements.
  • Evaluate energy-code requirements, equipment efficiencies, outside-air requirements, zoning, acoustics, maintainability, and constructability during design.
  • Coordinate BAS/control requirements and sequences with controls vendors or design partners as required by project scope.
  • Establish discipline design criteria and technical approach for complex projects; resolve difficult technical and coordination issues.
  • Lead discipline QA/QC, including review of calculations, drawings, specifications, and interdisciplinary coordination before issue.
  • Mentor engineers and designers, provide timely technical feedback, and raise the technical capability of the team.
  • Support project managers with scope definition, fee development, staffing, risk identification, client communication, and change management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a closely related ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • Typically 9+ years of relevant mechanical building-systems design, consulting engineering, or closely related experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred and generally expected for independent engineering leadership and sealing responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated record of technical leadership, QA/QC, mentoring, client communication, and successful delivery of complex building-systems projects.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical codes, energy codes, ASHRAE standards, and common HVAC design practices.
  • Autodesk Revit, Bluebeam, Microsoft 365, and applicable HVAC calculation software; familiarity with Carrier HAP, Trane TRACE 3D Plus, or similar tools is beneficial depending on role.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a remote professional environment.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, designers, project managers, architects, clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
