Job summary

Toyota North America is seeking a Sr Lead Engineer — Backend to join our Plano, TX team. You will serve as the technical authority for backend and platform architecture, designing and delivering full-stack features, APIs, and data models across product domains.

You will lead architecture discussions, drive RFC processes, mentor engineers, and partner with product and frontend teams to shape roadmaps. A strong background in AWS serverless, TypeScript/Python, and distributed systems is required.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with backend or full-stack focus
• Experience designing and building serverless architectures on AWS
• Ability to lead architecture discussions and RFC processes
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and/or Python for backend services
• Experience with RESTful and GraphQL APIs and OpenAPI/GraphQL tooling
• Deep knowledge of IaC using AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform
• Experience with observability, monitoring, and incident response
• Strong communication and collaboration across technical and non-technical stakeholders

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical authority for backend and platform architecture
• Design, build, and maintain full-stack features including APIs and data models
• Lead architecture reviews and RFC discussions across teams
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and reliability gaps
• Own debugging across the full stack from API latency to infra issues
• Define and champion engineering best practices and deployment safety
• Collaborate with managers, product, and frontend engineers on roadmaps
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and design feedback
• Contribute to hiring by conducting technical interviews
• Communicate technical risks and tradeoffs to stakeholders
