Job summary

SSOE Group's Tool Install division seeks a Senior Layout Designer / Layout Engineer to lead the design and coordination of complex process equipment layouts for semiconductor fabrication and other high-tech facilities. You will serve as the primary technical contact for project managers, discipline leads, clients, vendors, and contractors.

Qualifications

• 7–10+ years of experience supporting semiconductor/high-tech layout or tool install projects.
• Strong coordination and drawing review skills with emphasis on constructability and safety.
• Understanding of layout philosophies: product line, process layout, cellular manufacturing, densepack vs flexible layouts.
• Experience mentoring designers and junior engineers.
• Knowledge of safety, code compliance, and cleanroom requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning of production facilities and equipment layouts, determining efficient space use and resolving design constraints.
• Interpret supplier equipment drawings; set standards for 2D/3D tool CAD blocks and Revit RFAs.
• Develop manufacturing process layouts based on client tool quantities and priorities across greenfield and retrofit spaces.
• Perform design calculations, routing evaluations, and assessments for process utilities and interfaces.
• Direct preparation and review of drawings, models, and documentation for tool connections and integration.
• Lead coordination with project managers, discipline leads, clients, vendors, and contractors across project phases.
• Represent the layout discipline in design reviews and client meetings; manage revisions and alignment with scope, budget, and schedule.
• Conduct site walks, verify field conditions, identify clashes, and address scope gaps.
• Lead risk identification and mitigation for schedule, installation sequencing, safety, and continuity.
• Manage package turnover, as built information, redlines, and construction support documentation.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols, cleanroom requirements, and facility standards.
• Apply National Fire Code and National Electrical Code restrictions and requirements.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers.
