Job summary

Arista Networks is seeking a Layer1 software engineer to work on software that manages physical connectivity, from 1GBASE-T to advanced optics. You will own features from definition to deployment, collaborating with hardware and optics teams.

Expect to contribute across Layer1, scalability, and performance, while mentoring junior engineers in a growth-focused culture. You will write in C, C++, and Python, build tests and automation, and interface with customers and product teams to deliver

Qualifications

BS/MS/PhD with the indicated years of experience or equivalent work experience.
Expert knowledge of C/C++ and Python.
Knowledge of UNIX or Linux.
Knowledge of digital communication technologies like modulation and signal encoding schemes is a plus.
Understanding of IP networking and/or distributed systems is a plus.
Experience with low level hardware components is a plus.
Applied understanding of software engineering principles.
Strong problem solving and software troubleshooting skills.
Ability to design a solution and implement features independently.
Ability to work in small teams.

Responsibilities

Interface with customers, product management and hardware engineers to develop Layer1 features.
Architect, design and manage development of these features.
Develop and maintain features using C, C++ and Python; build tests and test infrastructure.
Collaborate with hardware teams to bring Layer1 components to market.
Design optimal software interfaces for Layer1 components with hardware engineers.
Provide technical leadership across features, projects and tools.
Work with support engineers and customers to analyze and fix issues in networks.
Work with system test engineers to analyze problems and provide fixes.
Mentor new and junior engineers in Arista's software environment.
