Job summary

Arista Networks is seeking a Layer1 software engineer to build software that manages the physical network layer, from 1GBASE-T to 400G optics. You’ll own features from design to deployment and collaborate with optics and hardware teams to ensure reliable connectivity.

You'll write in C, C++, and Python, instrument telemetry, and mentor junior engineers while contributing across the full software stack. The role offers growth within Arista's diverse, high-performance culture.

Qualifications

• BSCS/EE/CE plus 3 years of experience or equivalent work experience.
• Expert knowledge of C/C++ and Python.
• Knowledge of UNIX or Linux.
• Experience with low-level hardware components is a plus.
• Understanding of IP networking or distributed systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Interface with customers, product management and hardware engineers to define Layer1 features.
• Architect, design and manage development of these features.
• Develop and maintain features using C, C++ and Python; build tests and test infra.
• Collaborate with hardware teams to bring Layer1 components to market.
• Mentor new and junior engineers and contribute to code reviews and design decisions.
