Job summary

Arista Networks is seeking a Layer1 software engineer to develop and optimize the physical layer software that enables reliable 1GBASE-T to 400G optics across products. You will contribute across a breadth of engines, connectors and gearbox components, building telemetry tools and collaborating with Optics teams to set new media standards.

You will own features from definition to deployment, mentor junior engineers, and work with cross-functional teams to ensure scalable, high-performance

Qualifications

• BS in CS/EE/CE with 3+ years experience, or MS with 2+ years, or PhD with 1+ year, or equivalent
• Expert knowledge of C or C++ and Python
• Knowledge of UNIX or Linux
• IP networking or distributed systems knowledge is a plus
• Experience with low level hardware components is a plus
• Strong problem solving and software troubleshooting skills
• Ability to design a solution and implement features independently
• Ability to work in small teams

Responsibilities

• Interface with customers, product management and hardware engineers to design new Layer1 features
• Architect, design and manage feature development
• Develop and maintain features using C, C++ and Python; build tests and test infrastructure
• Collaborate with hardware and manufacturing teams to bring Layer1 components to market
• Design optimal software control interfaces for Layer1 components
• Provide technical leadership across features, projects and tools
• Work with Customer Support Engineers to analyze and fix network issues
• Collaborate with System Test Engineers to diagnose and fix test problems
• Mentor new and junior engineers to ramp up quickly
