Job summary

Arista Networks is seeking a Lead Software Engineer for the Physical Network Layer. You will own Layer1 features and work across hardware and software teams to deliver reliable physical connectivity. You’ll engineer in C, C++, and Python, develop tests, and mentor junior engineers.

As a senior contributor, you will align software with hardware capabilities, participate in customer interactions, and guide projects from definition to deployment within a growth-oriented culture.

Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD in CS/EE/CE with required experience or equivalent work history.
• Expert knowledge of C/C++ and Python.
• Experience with low-level hardware components.
• Familiarity with UNIX or Linux environments.
• Understanding software engineering principles and problem-solving.
• Strong communication and leadership for small teams.

Responsibilities

• Interface with customers, PMs, and hardware engineers to propose Layer1 features.
• Architect and design development of Layer1 features.
• Develop and maintain features using C, C++, Python; build tests and infra.
• Collaborate with hardware/manufacturing teams to bring Layer1 components to market.
• Design software control interfaces for Layer1 components with hardware engineers.
• Provide technical leadership across features, projects and tools.
• Analyze and fix problems in customer networks with Support engineers.
• Mentor junior engineers in Arista's software environment.
