Job summary

Benesch, Friedlander, Coplan & Aronoff in Cleveland seeks a Controller to lead accounting, financial reporting, and treasury across our multi-office law firm. The role partners with the CFO and Director of Finance to ensure accuracy, timely closes, and scalable processes in a hybrid work environment.

The successful candidate will strengthen controls, coordinate with auditors, manage FP&A inputs, and guide the accounting team through growth and complex engagements.

Responsibilities

• Owns the Firm's accounting framework, books and records, general ledger, and monthly/annual closing calendars, with timely financial reporting.
• Leads monthly, quarterly, and year-end close with clear ownership, disciplined review, reconciliations, and issue escalation.
• Ensures integrity across payroll, timekeeping, accounts payable, cash application, fixed assets, leases, debt, partnership, and tax recordkeeping.
• Establishes accounting positions for complex transactions and applies Firm policies consistently.
• Provides executive-level review of management reporting and explains variances, trends, and risks to the CFO.
