Job summary

Hamilton Jones Consulting seeks a Senior Software Developer to own hands-on development plus governance and delivery improvements. You will join a small team, report to the IT Director, and influence development standards while delivering secure, scalable Laravel applications.

The role blends development, delivery governance, and secure coding practices with AWS, CI/CD, and potential mobile contributions. Hybrid work in Chester is offered with UK employment considerations.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial Laravel and PHP development experience.
• Experience supporting live, user-facing applications.
• Proven ownership of change control, release management or software-delivery processes.
• Practical application-security knowledge including secure code review and secrets hygiene.
• Git, CI/CD pipelines and cloud-hosted deployment environments experience.
• AWS experience preferred.
• Ability to manage parallel workstreams and communicate progress honestly.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with AI-assisted coding tools.
• iOS development experience with Swift/SwiftUI and App Store release experience.
• Recognised security, development or delivery qualification.
• Experience in multi-site operating environments and driving more structure in growing teams.

Responsibilities

• Build, improve and maintain Laravel applications used across the business.
• Work with PHP, Laravel, MySQL, REST APIs and AWS services.
• Contribute to mobile development where possible.
• Deliver reliable, well-documented solutions.
• Improve change control and release processes.
• Maintain clear release records and rollback procedures.
• Use code reviews as quality control.
• Improve branching, deployment and environment-management practices.
• Coordinate multiple products and workstreams simultaneously.
• Identify blockers and risks early and translate requests into sequenced work.
• Provide progress updates to non-technical stakeholders.
• Maintain documentation for continuity and security standards.
