Job summary

BKF is seeking a Senior Project Engineer in Newport Beach, CA, to lead land development design and delivery. The role emphasizes client engagement, mentoring junior staff, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across the West Coast.

Requirements include a California-registered P.E. (or E.I.T. consideration), ABET-accredited civil engineering degree, and 4+ years in land development. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• California P.E. license is highly preferred; Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) will also be considered.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in land development design and project delivery.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D; strong client-facing communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical design and delivery of land development projects, including site layout, grading, drainage systems, underground utilities, and grade separations.
• Organize project workflows, establish design criteria, and delegate tasks to junior staff.
• Make decisions on specific project elements and consult with senior leadership on complex or critical issues.
• Support QA/QC implementation and identify out-of-scope services.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across teams.
• Assist in coordinating sub-consultant work and ensure cohesive project execution.
• Attend project meetings and represent BKF as a secondary point-of-contact.
• Contribute to proposal development and cross-sell BKF’s services to regional clients.
• Manage assigned project elements within established budgets and timelines.
