Columbia University is seeking a support staff member for the Greenwald Lab to assist in genetics and molecular biology research. This full-time position is ideal for recent graduates aiming for a higher-level career in academia or industry and involves significant training in specialized laboratory tasks.
Position Summary
The Greenwald Lab is a supportive, intellectually stimulating, and established research group. Our research concerns conserved signaling systems that convey information between cells, tissues, and organs during C. elegans development. Aberrations in the same conserved signaling systems that regulate development in C. elegans cause congenital developmental disorders and cancer in people.
This position will report to the Principal Investigator. The duties will include supportive lab maintenance tasks and participating in genetics and molecular biology research. The position is ideal for a recent college graduate who aims for graduate or medical school, or to gain experience for a higher-level career technical position in academia or industry.
This is a full-time position subject to grant funding.
Responsibilities
Specific supportive lab tasks are listed first. The percentage of time devoted to molecular biology and genetics will depend on the specific project(s), but total research time should be 75%. We will provide specialized training for these research tasks as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor degree required in a scientific discipline.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a research environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Significant undergraduate research experience in any area of molecular biology, genetics, developmental biology, or cell biology.
Prior experience in C. elegans lab will be a plus, but is not required.
Other Requirements
For a new graduate, college transcript and two letters of recommendation will be required; one must be from an undergraduate research supervisor and the other from a science course instructor.
