Job summary

PTR Global is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Lab Informatics to architect and build the digital laboratory platform focused on Benchling integration. You will partner with scientists, automation engineers, and data teams to translate scientific workflows into scalable software solutions.

You will contribute to Benchling configuration, data modeling, and application development, while ensuring data is structured, traceable, and reusable with strong engineering practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS, bioinformatics, software engineering, computational biology, or related field, or equivalent.
• 5 years of professional software engineering or scientific informatics experience.
• Hands-on experience with Benchling platform development (Apps, App Canvas, APIs/SDK, Events, Insights, Data Warehouse).
• Strong Python and SQL development skills.
• Experience developing production-quality applications, APIs, and system integrations.
• Proficiency with REST APIs, webhooks, authentication/authorization, and structured data models.
• Experience with Git, automated testing, CI/CD, and modern software engineering practices.
• Working knowledge of life-science R&D workflows and scientific data.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with scientists and technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with scientists and cross-functional teams to translate workflows into technical solutions.
• Design, develop, and maintain the Benchling environment including schemas and workflows.
• Develop production-quality applications and integrations using Benchling tools.
• Design scalable scientific data models ensuring data integrity and reuse.
• Build analytics, dashboards, and data apps using SQL, Python, and visualization tools.
• Integrate Benchling with instruments, automation platforms, and external software.
• Implement workflows for reliable data transfer between systems and Benchling.
• Follow software engineering best practices: versioning, testing, CI/CD, architecture.
• Maintain data standards and high data quality across platforms.
• Provide SME guidance on Benchling architecture, data modeling, and integrations.
• Troubleshoot complex platform issues and root causes.
• Contribute to technical roadmap and evaluate new technologies.
• Develop documentation and training materials for adoption of tools.
• Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews and mentoring.
