Job summary

Amazon's Global Materials Science (GMS) organization seeks a Lab Engineer in Seattle to lead materials testing and characterization for sustainable packaging. You will design experiments, operate state-of-the-art equipment, and generate data to inform packaging material decisions touching millions of customer interactions.

You will mentor junior engineers, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and help develop SOPs and analysis frameworks that improve lab throughput and data quality while

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Paper Science, Polymer Science, Physics or related fields.
  • 6+ years of experience in packaging materials development, testing, manufacturing or related field.
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Paper Science, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 4+ years of laboratory experience in materials testing, quality control, or research environment.
  • Experience developing test methods or SOPs for materials characterization.
  • Experience with packaging materials testing (paper, adhesives, coatings, polymers) following TAPPI, ASTM, ISO, ISTA.

Responsibilities

  • Lead materials testing and characterization in a lab setting.
  • Design, develop, and refine test protocols per standards (TAPPI, ASTM, ISO, ISTA).
  • Mentor and train junior lab engineers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on experimental design and data interpretation.
  • Develop SOPs and improve lab processes for higher throughput and data quality.
