Job summary

Apple Inc. is seeking a mid-career Senior Software Engineer for the Information Systems & Technology group in Cupertino. You will design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based backend services, collaborating with engineers, PMs, designers, and leadership across Apple’s ecosystems.

The role emphasizes scalable distributed systems, API implementations, and strong backend patterns, with opportunities to influence a wide range of Apple services from data centers to retail platforms.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent professional work experience.
• 5+ years proven experience developing software in a professional capacity.
• 3+ years proven experience implementing, and shipping high‑scale, high‑performance, highly available, fault‑tolerant, and secure cloud‑based distributed systems, including proficiency in API implementation (e.g. REST, RPC, GraphQL, etc.).
• 3+ years proven experience using relational (e.g. Postgres, MySQL, etc.) and NoSQL (e.g. Cassandra, MongoDB, etc.) databases.
• 2+ years proven experience with Java, including proficiency in concurrency, memory management, and performance optimization techniques.
• Proficiency in OOP principles, data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns (e.g. GoF).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, document, improve, and maintain Java code and related software.
• Participate in all project phases from planning to delivery and future iterations.
• Collaborate with software engineers, PMs, product designers, and leadership.
• Contribute to scalable, maintainable backend solutions and system design.
