Job summary

JPMorgan Chase in Columbus seeks a Lead Software Engineer to drive design, development, and delivery of scalable, secure systems within the Consumer & Community Banking Deposits platform. You will mentor a team, lead architecture decisions, and contribute hands-on coding in Java and Spring.

The role emphasizes building reliable production code, expanding automation, and leveraging cloud services while advancing secure coding practices and inclusive team culture.

Qualifications

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience.
• Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• 8+ years hands on experience using Java, Spring based technologies and event based microservices in a Cloud environment (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.).
• Strong experience with micro services/RESTful API, relational/NoSQL databases, data modeling and data ingestion frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with data streaming and messaging frameworks (Kafka, Spark, etc.).
• Understanding of containers (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, etc.).
• Influencing & stakeholder management: Aligns roadmaps; secures cross - functional buy - in with data and clear trade - offs
• Executive communication: Frames complex tech and risk as business impact with clear options
• Mentoring: Coaches engineers; builds quality, psychological safety, and continuous improvement
• Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools within the work environment with demonstrated ability to critically evaluate, validate, and refine AI-generated outputs for correctness, performance, and security
• Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; ability to guide peers on safe and effective usage within team practices

Responsibilities

• Executes creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting.
• Develops secure high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others.
• Identifies opportunities to automate remediation of recurring issues to improve stability.
• Leads evaluation sessions with vendors and teams to drive architectural design decisions.
• Leads communities of practice across Software Engineering to promote new technologies.
• Adds to team culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect.
• Performs heavy coding utilizing Java, Spring, Microservices/RESTful API, relational databases and Cloud services.
• Leads Agile team of 6 as an active developer and contributor.
• Expands unit testing automation suite and CI/CD integration.
• Uses AI coding assist tools and ensures outputs are validated for correctness and security.
• Applies SDLC toolchain knowledge including AI-assisted development to improve automation.
