BNY in New York, NY is seeking a Senior Java Full Stack Developer to help build and enhance a real-time risk management platform. The role balances backend Java/Spring Boot with frontend React development within a global engineering team.

Qualifications

Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Java Full Stack Developer to join a global engineering team responsible for building and enhancing a real-time risk management platform within a complex financial services environment. This role will focus primarily on backend development using Java and Spring Boot while also contributing to modern frontend development using React.

This role is based in New York, NY, offering a hybrid schedule of 4-days onsite.

Key Responsibilities

• Full Stack Development: Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable enterprise applications across both frontend and backend technologies, contributing to a real-time risk platform built on a microservices architecture
• Backend Engineering: Develop and support high-performance backend services using Java and Spring Boot, with a strong focus on REST API development, application scalability, and system reliability
• Frontend Development: Build responsive, user-friendly web applications using React, JavaScript, and TypeScript while creating reusable UI components and modern user experiences
• Microservices Architecture: Contribute to the design, development, and deployment of microservices supporting real-time risk management and distributed application processing
• Database Development: Design queries, optimize performance, and manage data interactions across relational and NoSQL databases including SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MongoDB, and Hazelcast
• API Development & Integration: Build, consume, and maintain RESTful APIs while supporting internal and external system integrations across multiple platforms
• Application Security: Implement authentication and authorization mechanisms utilizing OAuth2, JWT, API keys, and secure development best practices
• Software Quality: Apply Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) methodologies while participating in code reviews and testing initiatives
• Production Support & Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve production issues across the full technology stack while supporting ongoing application stability and performance improvements
• Agile Collaboration: Partner with architects, product owners, UX/UI designers, QA teams, DevOps engineers, and global development teams while actively participating in Agile ceremonies and sprint planning

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience developing enterprise applications as a Full Stack Developer or Software Engineer
• Strong expertise with Java and Spring Boot, including designing and developing enterprise-grade backend services and APIs
• Hands‑on experience building frontend applications using React, JavaScript, and TypeScript
• Strong understanding of microservices architecture, distributed systems, and RESTful API development
• Experience working with relational databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or Oracle
• Understanding of NoSQL databases and real‑time data technologies, including exposure to Hazelcast or similar platforms
• Experience implementing authentication and authorization frameworks including OAuth2 and JWT
• Familiarity with software development best practices including TDD, BDD, code reviews, and automated testing
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across globally distributed teams
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field

Preferred Experience

• Experience with Python and FastAPI development
• Knowledge of event-driven architecture, Kafka, and real-time messaging platforms
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Familiarity with GraphQL, WebSockets, Server-Sent Events (SSE), and modern frontend tooling
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
• Exposure to caching technologies such as Hazelcast or Redis
• Experience supporting real-time trading, risk management, or financial services applications
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as Windsurf, Cursor, or similar technologies
• Experience working in large-scale enterprise financial services environments
