Job summary

Theta Data, a pioneering data company in the United States, seeks seasoned Java Software Engineers with deep financial market data experience. Java 21 is the core language, with C++ familiarity a plus.

This hands‑on role emphasizes architecture, scale, and building backend services powering real-time options and stocks data. You will join a lean team, shaping new services, eliminating bottlenecks, and redesigning workflows from scratch.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience building high-throughput, low-latency Java systems for financial markets.
• Experience with low-level network programming (raw sockets, TCP, custom protocols).
• Experience designing/consuming gRPC/Protobuf APIs and JVM performance tuning.
• Experience with columnar/analytical databases (ClickHouse) and streaming systems (Kafka/RedPanda).
• Strong CS fundamentals and ability to operate in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale backend services handling billions of requests daily.
• Build and optimize pipelines ingesting and streaming market data at scale.
• Architect new systems and contribute to technical direction.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across the stack.
• Support production systems, investigate bugs, and keep services running smoothly.
