Job summary

Colonial Group in Greenwich, CT, seeks a Senior Java Developer for a hybrid role (3 days in office / 2 days remote). You will drive the full SDLC for mission-critical financial applications, with emphasis on Java Spring, AI-assisted coding tools, and cross-functional collaboration.

Ideal candidates have 5–10 years of experience, strong OO design skills, and hands-on JDBC/Oracle work. The team values organized, deadline-driven professionals who can lead technology initiatives across departments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 5-10 years of experience designing and building medium-to-large scale applications using Java and/or Python/Perl on Linux.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java Spring, including Spring Boot (microservices) and traditional Spring applications.
• Strong grasp of object-oriented design principles and common design patterns.
• Experience with JDBC and relational databases (Oracle preferred).
• Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools across the SDLC.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills across development teams on critical rollouts.
• Knowledge of financial instruments or motivation to learn financial markets and concepts.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, scalable financial applications.
• Optimize and refactor existing code to improve reliability and performance.
• Partner with developers and stakeholders to plan, prioritize, and deliver development initiatives.
• Validate AI-assisted or AI-refactored code with sufficient automated test coverage before review.
• Conduct thorough code reviews and ensure large change sets are broken into reviewable units.
• Collaborate across teams to implement and roll out solutions in production and development environments.
• Proactively identify and resolve technical issues before they impact downstream systems.
