Job summary

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) has an opportunity to join our team supporting the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts (AOUSC) Product Development Office in Washington, DC.

The Senior Java Developer will work on enterprise-class software applications within an agile environment, delivering full lifecycle development from requirements through deployment. The role emphasizes Java/J2EE, Spring, RESTful services, and secure, scalable design.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 7+ years of enterprise Java/J2EE development experience.
  • Expert level Java development experience.
  • Experience with Linux (Red Hat).
  • Experience with JSP/Servlets or JSF; RESTful services; Spring Framework; CI/CD; SQL/ORM (Hibernate/JPA).
  • Experience in agile environments; strong communication and collaboration; familiarity with Federal IT security guidelines and Section 508.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in an agile team to deliver full lifecycle software development (requirements, architecture, design, development, testing, deployment).
  • Design, develop, and maintain code with high quality, performance, and security.
  • Incorporate standards and best practices across SDLC; perform code reviews and feedback.
  • Update and maintain system design documents; propose solutions to meet requirements.
  • Contribute to SDLC improvements (TDD, static analysis, CI/CD, automated security scanning).
  • Collaborate with solutions architects to align with industry standards and Judiciary framework.

GDIT has an opportunity for a dynamic and collaborative candidate to join our team supporting the Administrative Office of the US Courts (AOUSC) Product Development Office (PDO) under the Department of Chief Information Officer (DCIO) in Washington, DC.

GDIT provides full software development lifecycle support for a variety of highly complex business critical systems, including COTS and customized solutions. Our support includes program and project management, business requirements analysis, solutions architecture, and software engineering within the AO to deliver systems for the Case Management and Electronic Case Filing (CM/ECF) Portfolio, the Probation and Pretrial Services (PPS) Portfolio, and the National Applications Portfolio.The CM/ECF Software Developer will work as part of an agile development team to build and support enterprise-class software applications. The current technical environment includes Informix, Java/Spring Boot, Perl, shell scripts, HTML/ CSS/ JavaScript/ AngularJS, and mobile and web technologies.

The Senior Java Developer will execute the following responsibilities:

  • Participate in an agile team to deliver the full lifecycle, including requirements, architecture, design, development, testing and deployment.
  • Design, develop, and maintain code that meets requirements with high quality, and performs efficiently and effectively to provide great customer experience.
  • Incorporate standards and best practices, including performance, security, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Update and maintain system design documents.
  • Review and provide feedback on functional and technical requirements.
  • Define and propose solutions for meeting requirements.
  • Contributing to improvements in the software development lifecycle (SDLC) utilizing practices such as test-driven development (TDD), static code analysis, code reviews, continuous integration, continuous delivery, and automated security scanning.
  • Working closely with solutions architects to ensure system design follows the industry best practices and standards that aligned with the Judiciary framework.
  • Investing in learning and the software development efficiency of the entire office through teamwork, personal responsibility, individual and group training, and process improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree plus at least Seven years (7+) of experience in enterprise grade software development using Java/J2EE technology in a web-based environment.
  • Expert level Java developer experience.
  • Experience with Linux (Red Hat)
  • Significant experience with JSP and Servlets, or with Java Server Faces (JSF).
  • Experience with RESTful web services.
  • Experience in Spring Framework.
  • Experience in automation of CI/CD pipelines.
  • SQL and data modeling experience, including experience working with ORM tools/frameworks such as Hibernate (including working knowledge of JPA).
  • Extensive experience developing applications in an agile environment.
  • Outstanding communication, organization, time management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills coupled with strong listening skills.
  • Experience with Git or other distributed source control system
  • Working knowledge and experience in Federal IT security guidelines and practices and Section 508/ Accessibility.
  • Ability to contribute on an individual basis as well as demonstrate strengths as a team player as a member of an agile team.
  • Experience communicating and collaborating with other software developers, business owners, and management.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in technologies and frameworks such as Perl, Spring Framework, Angular, Docker, cloud native applications and understanding of cloud architecture, and security minded design and development.
