Job summary

Randstad Digital in Madison, Wisconsin seeks a contract software engineer to develop Java backend applications (Java 8–21) and Angular front-ends. You will implement RESTful APIs, leverage Kafka and Redis, and apply OpenAPI documentation, with unit tests via JUnit and Playwright.

The role requires collaboration across business analysts, QA, and DevOps, with strong focus on performance, accessibility (WCAG), and code quality. 8am–5pm, 100% remote from Madison with occasional in-office visits.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Framework (Spring Boot), Hibernate/JPA, Message queuing, and caching.
• Advanced skills in Angular (21), Typescript, HTML5, and CSS3.
• Experience designing, creating, and documenting RESTful API using Spring Boot and OpenAPI.
• Practical knowledge of middleware platforms like Apache Kafka, Redis, and BOOMI.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and dynamic environment configuration.
• Experience developing wireframes and mock-ups to communicate design concepts with stakeholders.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, Google Cloud.

Candidate MUST be a resident local to Madison or near the Madison office. The selected hire can work 100% remote from within the Madison area but must be available to come into the office if needed.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain Java(8 to 21)-based backend applications, ensuring high performance and scalability.
• Unit test and code coverage using Junit.
• Good working experience using spring boot, messaging queues, caching and having good experience using Kafka, Redis and or equivalent tools.
• Develop and maintain Angular(21)-based front-end user interfaces with a focus on responsiveness, usability, and ADA/WCAG compliance.
• Unit tests using PlayWright.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business analysts, and APM/QA engineers, to gather and implement requirements.
• Create and maintain RESTful APIs for seamless integration between frontend and backend systems.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, ensuring system reliability and robustness.
• Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in Java and Angular development.
• Have good experience doing code reviews and contribute to code quality and standards to ensure high-quality product delivery.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, and deployment.
• Experience using AI(Prompts/Skills/MCP) to speed up development process.
