Job summary

Talan in New York City is seeking a Senior Java Developer to join a team of seven developers working on mission-critical applications across Fixed Income, Trading, and Risk. This hands-on backend role demands ownership of projects and close collaboration with business and technology stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have strong Java expertise, Spring Boot proficiency, and experience delivering scalable distributed systems in a financial services context.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on Java development experience.
• 5+ years of Spring / Spring Boot experience.
• Strong knowledge of Core Java, concurrency, collections and exception handling.
• Experience with REST APIs and distributed applications.
• Good SQL knowledge.
• Experience with Git, Maven and CI/CD.
• Messaging experience such as ActiveMQ, Kafka or similar.
• Strong communication skills and proactive mindset.
• Bachelor degree in Computer science, Engineering, Finance or Quantitative finance

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain enterprise applications using Java, Spring and Spring Boot.
• Contribute across the full SDLC, including development, testing, code reviews and production releases
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and collaborate with local and offshore teams.
• Take ownership of application delivery, stability and technical improvements.
• Perform system design, technical analysis and proof of concepts.
• Support application monitoring, upgrades and production issues.
• Mentor junior developers when needed.
