Job summary

Humana, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build and maintain the NBA platform's rules engine and related backend services. You will implement business rules in Java and Drools, expose REST APIs, and connect via Kafka events while ensuring correctness and performance in a PHI-handling environment.

The role requires strong Java/Spring Boot skills, experience with backend services, and collaboration with product/compliance. Hybrid remote work with some in-office time is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS or related field.
• 5+ years of software engineering with Java/Spring.
• Experience building backend services and REST APIs.
• Strong ability to design and reason about complex logic.
• Experience with Kafka and event-driven integration.

Responsibilities

• Rules engine development with Java and Drools for eligibility, suppression and consent.
• Backend services and REST APIs using Java/Spring Boot.
• Kafka event production/ consumption to connect components.
• Write thorough tests; ensure correctness and auditable behavior.
• Maintain fast, reliable rule evaluation as traffic grows.
• Participate in code reviews and uphold engineering standards.
• Collaborate with Product and compliance on requirements.
