Job summary

Citi in Irving, TX is seeking an experienced backend engineer to lead the design and development of scalable Java-based microservices. You will architect services with Spring, Spring Boot, and Spring Cloud, integrate Oracle and MongoDB, and mentor peers.

Expect a focus on performance, reliability, and deployment automation. The role requires deep expertise in Hibernate, JPA, container orchestration (OpenShift/Kubernetes), and Helm packaging, along with CI/CD tooling such as Harness.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software development experience with a focus on Java
• Expert-level knowledge in Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and Spring Cloud
• Expert-level understanding of Microservices Architecture and best practices
• Expert-level proficiency in Hibernate, JPA, Oracle, and MongoDB
• Strong experience in application performance, monitoring, and optimization
• Proven leadership and problem-solving for highly complex challenges
• Experience with Docker and container orchestration (OpenShift, Kubernetes)
• Experience with Helm for Kubernetes packaging
• Experience with Harness for deployment automation
• Knowledge of Kubernetes best practices and secret management

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of backend systems using Java, Spring, Spring Boot, and Spring Cloud
• Architect and implement microservices with a focus on scalability and reliability
• Integrate Oracle and MongoDB in high-performance environments
• Mentor junior developers and promote continuous improvement
• Define, design, and deliver new features with cross-functional teams
• Apply TDD and test-first development practices
• Implement data access with Hibernate and JPA; manage caching with Redis
• Ensure code quality via reviews, static analysis, and performance tuning
• Design and manage Kubernetes manifests, health checks, and PDBs
• Develop CI/CD pipelines with deployment automation
• Automate provisioning, configuration, and deployments
• Monitor performance, troubleshoot, and ensure high availability
• Contribute to logging, monitoring, and tracing strategies
• Ensure compliance with laws, rules, and Citigroup policies
