Job summary

CitiDirect’s Payments group in Jersey City, NJ seeks an experienced Senior Java Backend Developer to help modernize our payment architecture. You will design, build, and maintain scalable Java services, and drive microservices using Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and Kafka.

You will work with MongoDB and Oracle databases, implement secure coding practices, and mentor junior developers while contributing to test coverage and DevOps-enabled delivery.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience as a Java backend developer
• Strong Spring Framework experience (Boot, Cloud)
• Proven microservices design and implementation
• Experience with Reactive programming
• Proficiency with Kafka for event-driven systems
• MongoDB schema design and performance optimization
• Oracle SQL and database optimization
• RESTful API design and documentation
• Unit and integration testing with JUnit/Mockito
• Secure coding practices and authentication/authorization in microservices (OAuth 2.0, JWT)
• Containerization and DevOps familiarity (Docker, Kubernetes)

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust Java-based backend services
• Architect and implement microservices using Spring Framework 6, Spring Boot 3, and Spring Cloud
• Design and implement event-driven architectures with Apache Kafka
• Work with MongoDB and Oracle databases, optimize queries and schemas
• Implement and maintain unit and integration tests
• Participate in code reviews and mentor junior developers
• Contribute to development process improvements and best practices
