Huntington Bancshares, Inc. is seeking a Senior Java API Lead to provide technical leadership on complex API and backend systems in Columbus, OH. You will analyze, design, and develop Java-based services, mentor developers, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver scalable microservices.

You will own API design, RESTful services, and event-driven architectures, driving best practices, code reviews, and production support while aligning with Huntington's strategic IT initiatives.

Qualificações

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on Java development with Spring Boot and REST APIs.
• Strong SQL skills with complex queries and database troubleshooting.
• Experience building API-enabled and event-driven architectures, including third-party integrations.
• Experience with production support, code reviews, troubleshooting, Agile development, and guiding developers on Java/API best practices.

Description Summary

The Senior Java API Lead - IT technical specialist provides technical and consultative support on the most complex technical matters.

Duties and Responsibilities

Analyzes, designs, and develops systems based upon user specifications. Provides technical assistance in solving hardware or software problems. Possesses an in-depth knowledge of and works with the technical tools available for systems development and support. Maintains and demonstrates knowledge of technical industry trends, particularly as they apply to Huntington. May assist with identifying training needs or with training of less experienced staff. May serve as project leader for specific projects. Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
• Minimum 5 years of hands‑on development experience with Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices.
• Strong SQL skills, including complex queries, joins, stored procedures, and database troubleshooting.
• Experience building API-enabled applications and event-driven architectures, including integrations with internal and third-party systems.
• Experience with production support, code reviews, troubleshooting, Agile development, and guiding developers on Java/API best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Fluent in Java 8 or above, with strong experience developing large-scale backend applications using Spring Framework and Spring Boot.
• Strong experience designing, developing, and integrating REST APIs, microservices, and event-driven applications.
• Strong SQL and relational database experience, including schema design, complex query development, stored procedures, and performance optimization.
• Strong hands‑on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) experience is highly preferred and a huge plus.
• Experience with Swagger/OpenAPI, Maven, Git/GitHub, Jenkins, Postman/Newman, and CI/CD practices.
• Experience with Apigee or similar API gateway platforms.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across application, API, database, security, and performance issues.
• Banking industry experience with the ability to work effectively across IT teams, vendors, business partners, and application support teams.
