Job summary

Sound Transit seeks a Senior IT Systems Engineer to lead ROOT System Operations IT Engineering for the ORCA fare system. You will mentor peers, manage infrastructure, security, and incidents, and collaborate with Agencies, vendors, and Enterprise Architects to design, implement, and improve tools and integrations.

Responsibilities include monitoring, automation, IC/CD practices, and continuous improvement across production environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years IT Systems Engineer experience in distributed, enterprise production environment.
• Experience implementing, configuring, and maintaining advanced infrastructure technologies.
• Strong knowledge of security engineering principles and incident management.
• Ability to develop automation, scripts, and tooling for IT operations.
• Experience with RESTful APIs, data integrations, and CI/CD practices.
• Excellent collaboration with cross-functional teams and vendors.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical team leadership; mentor and coach team members, deliver technical expertise on infrastructure, security, and systems engineering.
• Champion strategic infrastructure initiatives aligned with ROOT and ORCA Agency objectives.
• Design, implement, and evolve systems across production environments; plan for growth and lifecycle management.
• Engineer and maintain cloud infrastructure, databases, networks, and field components; monitor and improve reliability and performance.
• Lead incident management: triage, troubleshooting, escalation, and root-cause analysis.
• Develop, test, and maintain API integrations, scripts, and automation to support fare system operations.
• Create and maintain runbooks, documentation, and equipment configurations; ensure compliance and security controls.
