Job summary

Sound Transit seeks a Senior IT Systems Engineer to act as a technical subject matter expert for the ROOT System Operations IT Engineering branch, supporting the regional ORCA Fare System. You will lead infrastructure, security, and incident management efforts, mentor peers, and guide API integrations and cloud deployments to ensure reliable fare system operations.

Qualifications

Minimum of a 4 year bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or closely related field.
Minimum 5 years of IT Systems Engineer experience in a distributed, enterprise production environment.
Experience implementing, configuring, and maintaining advanced infrastructure technology.

Responsibilities

Provide technical team leadership; mentor and coach team members, deliver technical expertise on infrastructure, security, and systems engineering functions.
Champion strategic infrastructure initiatives and drive execution aligned with ROOT and ORCA Agency objectives.
Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture to design, implement, and evolve systems across production and non-production environments.
Lead incident management activities including triage, troubleshooting, escalation coordination, service restoration, and root cause analysis.
