Join to apply for the Senior IT Systems Engineer role at Newsela.

The Role

Newsela is looking for a Senior IT Systems Engineer/Senior IT Systems Administrator to join our Information Technology team. Reporting to the IT Engineering Lead, you will help manage, scale, and automate our infrastructure. Your responsibilities include administering and supporting identity and access controls for corporate applications, automating administrative processes, partnering with business stakeholders to translate real-world processes into structured, repeatable workflows, and providing engineering leadership to support our support and systems staff. On-call requirements are occasional but typically can be resolved from a mobile device, as our infrastructure is 100% cloud-based.

Responsibilities include:

• Maintaining and configuring core SaaS systems and internal tools, ensuring stability, security, and scalability across applications like Atlassian Suite, Netsuite, Google Workspace, Kandji, and Slack.
• Maintaining accurate records of employees, devices, vendors, and applications using Jira Assets, ensuring synchronization with authoritative data sources like the HRIS and device management platforms.
• Operating and improving data flows and business logic using Celigo, ensuring systems communicate reliably and in real-time.
• Supporting compliance efforts (e.g., SOC 2) by configuring tools like Vanta, ensuring key IT workflows meet SLA and documentation requirements, and building alerts and reports for critical workflows.

Qualifications:

• At least 3-5 years of experience in an IT, systems, or infrastructure-focused role.
• Experience managing SaaS systems, automating workflows, and solving access or integration problems, with a bias for automation and clean documentation.
• Hands-on experience with technical workflows, communication, and improvement.
• Background with Google Workspace, Slack, Kandji, Atlassian, Jira Service Management, Jira Assets, Celigo, or similar platforms, SAML/SSO, Okta, Vanta, scripting (Bash, Python, API calls).
