Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a Senior IT/OT Systems Engineer to lead the design, deployment, and support of IT/OT infrastructure across the mill. You will work with Process Control, Maintenance, and Operations to implement DCS/PLC systems, develop upgrade plans, and document IT/OT environments.

The role requires deep IT/OT experience, VMware expertise, and strong communication skills to drive safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations in a manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of industrial IT/OT experience or 10+ years IT in enterprise environments with a two-year degree or equivalent military experience.
• Ability to learn new technologies rapidly and solve problems.
• Experience with VMware vSphere 5.5+ including ESXi, vCenter, Horizon View and virtualization solutions.
• Knowledge of networking (subnetting, routing, VLANs, wireless, Firewalls/ACLs) and common protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, SSH, NTP, SMTP, TELNET, RDP).
• Experience with Windows Services (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP).
• Experience with blade systems, storage arrays, Fibre Channel, iSCSI; familiarity with HP, Dell, PureStorage hardware.
• Ability to build/image/support desktops and laptops in IT & OT environments; knowledge of monitoring (PING, SNMP, WMI).
• Strong written and verbal communication; able to work independently and in teams.
• Self-directed, flexible, multitasking, safety-focused.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and support IT/OT infrastructure including DCS and PLCs and custom control applications.
• Coordinate with process control engineers and vendors on system requirements and upgrades.
• Develop short and long-term plans for system upgrades and migrations.
• Document IT/OT systems and provide ongoing support for production operations.
• Lead troubleshooting efforts and promote technical skills with stakeholders.
• Work with corporate IT/Engineering to implement policies and infrastructure improvements.
• Provide weekend/off-hour support for Process Control and IT needs.
