Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking an IT/OT Systems Engineer to design, implement, and support the IT/OT infrastructure that underpins our process control systems. You will work with DCS, PLCs, and custom control applications to maximize ROI, safety, and environmental performance.

The role reports to the Process Control Manager. You will collaborate with process control, maintenance, and operations teams; document systems; and drive upgrades, migrations, and policy alignment with corporate IT.

Qualifications

Minimum five years of industrial IT/OT experience; degree or 10+ years IT in enterprise environments.
Experience with VMware vSphere 5.5+ including ESXi, vCenter, Horizon View and other virtualization solutions.
Knowledge of networking concepts such as subnetting, routing, VLANs, wireless, Firewalls/ACLs, and common protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, SSH, etc).
Knowledge of Windows Services (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP).
Ability to design, implement, and support IT/OT infrastructure for Process Control Systems.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, and support IT/OT infrastructure that supports Process Control Systems (DCS, PLCs, and control applications).
Coordinate with process control engineers, operating departments, and control system suppliers during project design.
Document IT/OT systems and participate in system upgrades and migrations.
Lead troubleshooting efforts and coordinate with WestRock Corporate IT for policy and infrastructure improvements.
Provide weekend/off-hour availability to support Process Control and IT mill needs.
