Job summary

NextGen Federal Systems is seeking an Information Security Systems Officer (ISSO) to support CBP in Washington, DC. The role focuses on maintaining accreditation and enforcing security best practices across assigned systems.

You will collaborate with system owners, security engineers, and program managers to implement RMF, conduct risk assessments, and respond to incidents. Candidates should have a strong background in DHS/NIST frameworks and relevant certifications; active clearance is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in cybersecurity/IT-related field.
• 10 years of experience in cybersecurity/risk management or IT security roles.
• Ability to obtain and retain CBP Background Investigation.
• Certifications: CISSP, CISM, Security+, CEH or equivalent.
• Familiarity with NIST RMF, DHS IS program, DHS 4300A/B, and Federal IT security frameworks.
• Experience with security tools (Nessus, Splunk, ACAS, HBSS, SIEM).
• Understanding of network security, cloud security (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud), and endpoint protection.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with DHS policies, FISMA, NIST SP 800-53 and other security requirements.
• Develop and maintain SAPs under RMF, incl. SSP, SAR, and POA&M.
• Perform Continuous Monitoring activities, including vulnerability assessments and audits.
• Monitor and report security incidents per DHS guidelines and procedures.
• Support ATO and system accreditation activities with DHS CISA and stakeholders.
• Assist with penetration testing, vulnerability scanning, and remediation of weaknesses.
• Stay current on emerging cybersecurity threats and best practices for DHS systems.
