Job summary

Johns Hopkins University seeks a Sr. Intellectual Property Manager to independently manage a docket of software-based technologies, developing IP strategy and overseeing patenting activities.

You will work with investigators and outside counsel to craft IP assets for commercialization. You will collaborate with faculty, staff, students and licensing teams to identify market opportunities, manage budgets, and advance the university’s IP portfolio while providing leadership in patent prosecution

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in computer science and eligibility to register as a patent agent.
• Minimum four years of intellectual property experience.
• Experience with software patents and patent prosecution.

Responsibilities

• Meet with inventors to discuss IP strategy using pre-analysis checklists.
• Cultivate relationships with faculty inventors for timely service.
• Evaluate inventions for IP potential and patentability.
• Coordinate with IP counsel to file patent applications and protect IP.
• Develop IP landscapes for invention disclosures to identify market opportunities.
• Direct patent counsel in preparation, filing, and prosecution of U.S. and international applications.
• Track filing obligations and manage the IP docket and budget.
• Engage in outreach and education about IP and technology transfer.
