Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Technology Commercialization Manager to collaborate with innovators and leadership to assess, market, and license APL IP to industry and non-governmental organizations. You will negotiate license terms and help create technology startups licensing APL IP.

You will provide cradle-to-grave IP portfolio management across engineering and physical science domains, performing strategic research on patenting trends and technology

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or physical science or engineering field with at least 10 years of industry or technical experience.
  • 5+ years of direct experience in technology licensing and IP with a focus on commercial licensing.
  • Strong leadership, communication, research/analytical, organizational, creative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Capacity to positively interact with APL innovators, leadership, and industry contacts.
  • Proven ability to prioritize IP, generate licensing opportunities, negotiate terms, and execute agreements.
  • Eligible to obtain Interim Secret clearance and ultimately Top Secret; U.S. citizenship required.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with APL innovators, leadership, and fellow technology commercialization managers to assess, market, and license APL IP to industry and non-governmental organizations; negotiate terms and close high-impact license agreements; support creation of technology start-up companies licensing APL IP.
  • Provide cradle-to-grave IP portfolio management for technologies developed by APL in engineering and physical sciences.
  • Conduct tailored research on patenting trends, innovation viability, technology landscapes, and transfer best practices relevant to APL.
  • Engage with industry and investment communities to stimulate innovation and promote engagement with the APL commercialization process.
  • Coordinate with APL patent counsel to evaluate, secure, and maintain IP protection for relevant innovations within the portfolio.
  • Manage and guide the portfolio to align with APL strategic objectives.
