Job summary

Insight Global is seeking an IoT/Embedded Security Engineer in Eagan, MN for a contract role through end of 2027. Hybrid work model with starting pay at $70/hr.

You will partner with stakeholders to define secure requirements for embedded firmware, IoT devices, and backend services, and lead security initiatives across the lifecycle. The role requires 5+ years in software/firmware, 3+ years in C/C++ for embedded, and experience with secure coding, hardware security controls, and secure OTA

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in a technical field (see above).
• 5+ years in software/firmware development in fast-moving product teams.
• 3+ years C/C++ for embedded firmware.
• Experience with secure coding, reviews, remediation, and defect management.
• Experience with embedded RTOS or bare-metal—constrained devices.

Responsibilities

• Define secure system requirements for embedded firmware, IoT edge devices, gateways, and backend components.
• Design, develop, test secure firmware and IoT software following secure-by-design principles.
• Implement hardware security controls (secure elements, TPMs, hardware root of trust, JTAG/SWD lockdown).
• Apply memory safety practices and compiler hardening to mitigate C/C++ vulnerabilities.
• Develop secure provisioning workflows (key injection, certificate enrollment, device identity lifecycle).
• Integrate secure cloud-to-device communication patterns (mutual TLS, token-based auth, rotation, secure onboarding).
• Lead vulnerability triage, root-cause analysis, remediation, patch development, and release coordination.
• Perform threat modeling, secure code reviews, static/dynamic analysis, dependency scanning, security testing.
• Participate in embedded incident response, disclousure, rapid hotfix development for fielded devices.
• Design/implement secure OTA update pipelines with signing, encryption, rollback, A/B partitions.
• Integrate SAST, DAST, dependency scanning, and firmware security checks into CI/CD pipelines.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver secure connected products.
• Stay current with cybersecurity standards and secure development practices.
