Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Quality Engineer focused on investment castings to own process quality, drive NC dispositions, and lead continuous improvement across manufacturing operations in Washington. The role requires collaboration with internal and external customers and early involvement in NPI for casting processes.

Ideal candidates will have 10+ years in investment castings, an engineering degree, strong RCCA capabilities, and familiarity with AS9100/ISO9000 quality systems.

Qualifications

• Direct experience with manufacturing investment castings (10+ years).
• B.S. or higher in engineering.
• Strong verbal and technical writing skills; writing CAPEX justifications and vendor communications.
• Experience in production environment; aerospace, space launch, or military or commercial aviation preferred.
• Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO9000 Quality Management System and/or related quality systems and programs.
• Strong capability and understanding with proven success of RCCA tools.
• Safely work with hazardous systems, chemicals, and materials using the proper PPE.
• Physical Requirements: climb ladders and stairs; lift and carry 50 lbs to waist level for limited durations.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for all process-related aspects of quality of Investment Castings.
• Disposition of non-conformances (NCs) for rework/repair/scrap.
• Continuous improvement and clarification of written instructions for processing of investment castings.
• Understand heat treatments, chemical processing, and their effect on structures and surface inspection.
• Analyze casting-related process data and report findings using Excel/Minitab/JMP-type tools.
• Demonstrate dimensional improvements to reduce NCs.
• Collaborate with customers; develop and present training to build quality awareness.
• Work in team environments with self-motivation and initiative.
• Implement timely, cost-effective solutions to resolve manufacturing roadblocks.
• Execute aggressive timeline schedules; for NPI: coordinate with modelling and shell process engineers.
