Lookout Local is seeking a Senior Correspondent for the Eugene-Springfield desk to lead investigative and enterprise reporting, working with a team of reporters to deepen coverage across our local news network.

You will spearhead accountability reporting on criminal justice, housing, and public policy, using public records, data journalism, and strong storytelling to illuminate how local decisions affect communities.

Qualifications

• Eight to 10 years of experience as a daily news reporter.
• Proficiency with open records laws and libel laws.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities.
• Excellent news judgment and outstanding writing and editing skills for investigative reporting.
• Data journalism skills, including data collection and analysis.

Responsibilities

• Lead accountability agenda with editors to identify opportunities for investigative, enterprise and in-depth reporting across the newsroom.
• Produce quick-turn and long-term accountability stories that meet the needs of a fast-paced newsroom.
• Mentor other reporters to develop in-depth stories across beats and with source development.
• Be a newsroom leader on investigative tools such as Nexis, public records, and datasets for stories.
• Track an ongoing newsroom-wide database of FOIA and public records requests.
