Job summary

FirstEnergy is seeking an experienced Internal Auditor to perform audits across financial, operational, and compliance areas, including SOX testing. You will work with management to identify risks and strengthen controls, while coordinating with external auditors and delivering actionable recommendations.

The role requires a strong background in internal audit, accounting, and regulatory compliance, with the ability to travel as needed and collaborate across locations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering or related discipline is required.
• Master's degree preferred.
• CPA/CIA/CISA/CISSP certification desirable; 1 year to obtain.
• Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley and audit standards.
• Ability to work independently and cross-location teams.

Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and report on audits of financial, operational, and compliance areas.
• Conduct SOX testing and assess internal controls.
• Coordinate with external auditors for walkthroughs and sampling.
• Provide risk consulting to management on controls and processes.
• Identify control gaps and propose remediation actions.
• Lead meetings and communicate project status to stakeholders.
• Document business processes and identify improvement opportunities.
• Support travel to company locations (<10%).
