Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance seeks an experienced litigator to advise the company in complex litigation across insurance coverage disputes, extra-contractual suits, declaratory judgments, and bankruptcies. The role may align with Property, Auto, or Liability/Specialty teams, and may require in-office presence depending on location.

The successful attorney will provide strategic legal guidance, coordinate with outside counsel, manage risk for internal clients, and contribute to knowledge sharing

Qualifications

• J.D. orLL.B. degree and admission to the bar in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 5–7 years of practicing attorney experience with substantial insurance litigation.
• Excellent analytical, legal writing and communication skills with client focus and attention to detail.
• Familiarity with corporate operations and interacting with internal stakeholders and outside counsel.
• Demonstrated familiarity with emerging legal technology and AI-enabled tools in litigation while ensuring ethics.
• Trial experience preferred.
• Maintaining knowledge of evolving legal issues and developments.

Responsibilities

• Provide high quality oral and written legal advice to internal clients.
• Liaison between internal clients and outside counsel to manage exposure and goals.
• Advise on business policies to mitigate litigation risk.
• Conduct comprehensive research and analysis of cases, statutes and regulations.
• Render clear legal opinions as necessary.
• Retain and direct local defense counsel nationwide.
• Review litigation strategy, discovery, and witness preparation.
• Identify emerging legal trends and share knowledge across the team.
• Attend mediations and trials; travel up to 10–20%.
• Assign and review work of law clerks and paralegals.
• Conduct training for internal clients.
