Job summary

Messer in the Americas seeks a Lead Instrument Engineer to provide technical leadership for plant Instrumentation and analyzer designs, installation, and commissioning. You will work with project engineers to deliver detailed equipment specifications and cost bases, while leveraging 3rd party resources when needed.

The role requires mentoring junior engineers, developing instrumentation standards, and coordinating with multiple disciplines to meet project targets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
• Minimum of 7–15 years relevant experience with Instrumentation and Analyzer engineering in industrial/chemical plants.
• Willingness to travel 25–40% of time.

Responsibilities

• Ensure industry standards and client specs are followed in design.
• Coordinate basic and detail engineering reviews.
• Define project scope on proposal phase and optimize conceptual design for production plants (Air separation, CO2, N2, H2).
• Prepare specifications for suppliers and contractors for bid packages and provide technical review of bids.
• Prepare turnover packs for operations and coordinate plant construction, commissioning, start-up.
• Monitor project progress and KPIs and report deviations; participate in HAZOPs and P&ID reviews.
• Oversee equipment vendors and OEMs, including FAT, audits, and QA/QC plans for instrumentation and analyzer systems.
• Support multiple geographic locations and contribute to instrumentation/analyzer standards.
