Job summary

Messer Americas is seeking a Lead Instrument Engineer to provide technical leadership for plant instrumentation and analyzer designs, installation, and commissioning in the Americas. You will support proposal and project teams with detailed instrumentation deliverables, develop standards, and mentor junior engineers across multiple projects.

The role requires coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring compliance with safety and client specs, and traveling as needed to support projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
• 7–15 years of instrumentation and analyzer engineering experience.
• Experience in design, installation, testing and commissioning in industrial/chemical plants.
• Willingness to travel 25–40%.

Responsibilities

• Ensure adherence to industry safety standards and client specifications in design.
• Coordinate basic and detail engineering reviews.
• Define new project scope and optimize conceptual design for production plants (air separation, CO2, N2, H2).
• Prepare specifications for suppliers and bid packages for contractors.
• Prepare turnover packages to operations including drawings and datasheets.
• Coordinate and participate in plant construction, commissioning and start-up.
• Monitor project progress and KPIs and report deviations.
• Participate in HAZOPs and P&ID reviews.
• Oversee instrumentation and analyzer vendors, FATs and QA/QC plans.
